He’s done it again, Miami designer Julian Chang has taken my breath away for the second time.

I first witnessed his stunning designs at the GenArt Fashion show held earlier this year at the Raleigh Hotel. Several up and coming designers were showcased at this event, but it was Julian’s work that stood out.

His designs were feminine, sensual, soft and seductive, yet still classic in nature and form. I was so impressed by the collection that I couldn’t wait to see his designs again, to feel the clothes and closely pore over the details which quite literally, took my breath away.

Fortunately, I didn’t’ have to wait long to meet the infamous Mr. Chang. I was able to view his latest collection at a recent “Girls night out” event hosted by the designer at his studio on 79th Street.

Like his designs, his showroom is inviting and warm; a perfect balance of classicism and cutting edge style. The studio is a perfect host to the many exceptional pieces, which adorn its pure white walls.

A sleek black suit made of textured acrylic with a subtle sparkling rhinestone broach belt dazzles against the lily white backdrop, reminiscent of classic Hollywood glamour.

Silks, satins and sequence coalesce in Chang’s captivating eastern inspired designs. A baby lilac silk dress incorporates Asian elements, with a dragonfly motif and v-shaped neckline.

“I travel a lot,” comments Julian. “The inspiration comes from my travels. I just got back from Israel and my experiences have been incorporated into my new men’s line.”

There’s certainly no lack of inspiration at this design house, as Julian Chang has also branched into handbags, jewelry and footwear. “You should see some of the shoes we have coming,” Julian says with wide eyes smiling. “They are to die for.”

If Julian’s upcoming footwear line is anything like what he already has in stock, women are in for a real treat. A pair of silver stilettos encrusted with royal blue gems and rhinestones is just one example of the outrageously feminine and one of a kind item’s that Julian Chang offers.

“I’m sensitive to what people want, their look and what they want to project,” describes Julian. “The materials are top quality and you feel it when you wear it, it moves with your body. We only use the best.”

The quality of the materials and construction are evident. Tailored darts, delicate details and fine hand tailoring create the crux of Julian’s designs. “I always think about details,” says Julian. “Details are very important they have an effect on people.”

“I am involved from concept to completion, in every single step,” Julian states. The dresses, pants and jackets are meticulously made, hang beautifully and hug all of the right curves and corners, accentuating an array of figures.

“We try and do all we can to cater to our clients,” Julian says. “If something doesn’t fit we will custom make the design to fit your measurements perfectly. We have clients that order clothes without even coming in. We simply take their measurements and custom tailor a piece specifically for them.”

“We make clothes to fit all body types,” Julian describes. “We have clients that range from twenty five to seventy years of age.”

But, perhaps the most intriguing element of Julian Chang’s Couture is the price. “Our clothes are sexy, comfortable and affordable,” Julian emphatically states. “Blouses begin at $60 and pants begin at $120.”
